John James Zimmerman

Fairbury – John Zimmerman, 83, of Fairbury, passed away at 2:40am, April 21, 2012 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury. Funeral will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Fairbury. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00pm, Monday, April 23, 2012, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to SELCAS or Fairview Haven Nursing Home.

John was born October 10, 1928 in Fairbury the son of Joseph Benjamin and Hermina Miller Zimmerman.

He married Lois J. Smith on August 3, 1952 in ElPaso. She survives in Fairbury.

Also surviving are two sons, Gary Zimmerman of Fairbury and Keith (Linda) Zimmerman of Gridley; three daughters, Barb Zimmerman, Beth (John) Marshall both of Fairbury, and Donna (Tim) Schroeder of Edwardsville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth King of Piper city; and two brothers, Robert (Lucille) Zimmerman of Fairbury and Ronald Zimmerman of Bloomington.

His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

John co-owned and operated his family business that his father began, Zimmerman True Value in Fairbury. He retired in 1992.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, United Methodist Men, Fairbury Zoning Board, and Fairbury Chamber of Commerce.

John was an EMT with SELCAS and was part of the first class of EMT’s in Fairbury. He was a also a Boy Scout Leader.

John loved his children and grandchildren he delighted in making all of his daughters and granddaughters dollhouses. He also enjoyed being outside doing yardwork.
