Obituary

A.Isabella Jontry (nee Hansen)
Born January 10, 1909, Bloomington, Illinois

Isabella attended St. Mary's Grade School in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School.

She married John Edward Jontry of Chenoa, Illinois on June 6, 1936, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bloomington, Illinois. The children of that marriage are Margaret M (Joseph) Andel of Woodridge, Illinois, and Michael J. (Carol) Jontry of Decatur, Illinois.

Isabella had eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Alan) Mantei of Houston, TX; David (Beth) Duehr of Waukesha, WI; Elizabeth (Tom) Draeger of Waukesha, WI; Maryanne (Joel) Eigner of Fall Creek, WI; John M. Jontry of San Diego, Ca; Jean M. Sanders of Springfield, Il; James E. Jontry of Rock Hill, Mo; and Jerome E. Jontry of Hoboken, NJ.

Great grand children are Jakob Mantei, Rose Mantei, Thomas J. Draeger, Violet Eigner, and Irene Eigner.

Isabella's older sister Ann (Daniel) Tuohy of Brookeville, Md remains. She was preceded in death by husband John Jontry, sisters Virginia Hansen and Mary (Ray) Jarry, brother Wendolin (June) Hansen, and adopted brother Robert (Connie) Hansen.

Isabella is remembered as a wonderful conversationalist and story teller, especially her tales about "the good old days" and her life as a young girl. Her story about cooking potato chips in a vat of hot oil in the basement of her parent's home always amazed people, as did her adventures in her new Model A Roadster. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spirited discussion on politics and world affairs. After the passing of her husband, she enjoyed spending volunteer time teaching English as a Second Language classes in Bloomington. It was a mutual learning experience between teacher and students.

She retired from the family home in Chenoa in 2000, relocating at the time to Blair House in Normal, and in 2005 to Imboden Creek Assisted Living, in Decatur, Illinois. Isabella passed from this world on the evening of Monday, December 31, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

Expressions of remembrance may be made to Habitat for Humanity (Americus, Ga or Bloomington, IL chapter), Clare House (703 E. Washington, Bloomington, IL) or to Catholic Extension Society (35 Wacker Dr. Chicago 60601-9987).

Visitation will be at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Chenoa, Illinois, 10AM-10:45 AM Saturday, January 5, 2008, funeral mass 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chenoa to follow visitation.
