Alta Marie Smith, 102 of Fairbury passed away at 3:12 pm, Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury

Funeral services will be 11 am, Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Alta was born March 29, 1908 in Mt. Hermon, KY the daughter of Henry and Laura (Hall) Moore. She married Sonnie Smith on May 3, 1925 in Moss, TN. He passed away on February 14, 1974.

Survivors include five grandchildren; Kristal (James) Travis, Pontiac, Todd (Lisa) Smith, Mackinaw, Deann (Kevin) Garber, Rapids City, IL, Michael (Kristi) Smith, Mackinaw, Jamie (Tom) Benefiel, Colfax, and 14 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, and special friends; Judy Smith, Mackinaw, Gary and Sharon Cooper, Fairbury.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter; Ruth (James) Benway, one son; Bobby (Judy) Smith, two brothers, eight sisters and one grandchild.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church of Fairbury or Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.

Alta was employed by Fairbury-Cropsey School district as a cook for over 26 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairbury, Maranatha Circle and the Charity Home Rebekah Lodge 112, Fairbury. Alta loved to entertain and was known for her many delicious pies.
