Allen was born October 22, 1943 in Pontiac to Theodore and Pauline (Bartley) Schrof.  His parents; brother, Larry Schrof; ex-wife Georgia Coffman; and business partner, Marshall Hanson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Stewart (Dr. Heather) Schrof of North Port, FL and Stephanie (Tammi Patton) Schrof of Champaign; his sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Dolton of Washington; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and long-time companion, Pamela Savona of Fairbury and her children and grandchildren.

Allen was a graduate of Pontiac Township High School. He was interested in agriculture from a very young age and spent many hours at the tractor dealership with his father, worked as a farm hand, and participated in FFA. He was a farmer and seed dealer for 61 years until he was forced to retire due to his health in 2020.

Allen rode a motorcycle until the age of 21 to save money to buy his first car – a 1964 "Fuelie" Corvette.  Allen took meticulous care of his car entering it in shows and winning awards.  His Corvette can be traced to the beginning of the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show and has been included in books and posters.  Allen had many other interests including Cubs baseball, gardening, and fishing.  Allen served our country as tank commander in the US Army-National Guard from 1964 to 1970 achieving the rank of sergeant. Most of all, Allen was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
