She leaves behind her devoted husband, Michael P. Wyant; daughter Brynlee; son William; daughter Sofie; her parents, Steve and Elizabeth Szczepanski of Toluca, IL; sister Maggie (Kyle) Massa; brother, Mike (Samantha) Szczepanski; sister Diane Szczepanski; parents-in-law Mike & Tricia Wyant, sister-in-law, Andrea (Steve) Killian; brother-in-law, Adam (Lauren) Wyant; five nephews; seven nieces; and dear friends, The Farner Family, Dr. Robert and Dorothy, Bob, Dave (Wendy), and Charlie (Colette). She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and dear friend, Robert's late wife, Kathleen Farner.
Anna was born in Drawsko Pomorskie, Poland to Steve and Elizabeth (Holubczat) Szczepanski on June 26, 1981. When she was three years old, she left Poland with her parents and younger sister, Maggie, traveled by cargo ship to Germany and later flew to the United States. She and her family spent time in Pennsylvania and St. Louis before settling in Toluca, IL. With her parents and sister, Maggie, Anna became a United States citizen on November 16, 1990. She graduated from Fieldcrest High School in 1999.
Anna studied radiology and cosmetology and found her passion in dental health. She worked as a dental assistant in the Bloomington-Normal area for over 20 years, finding her work family with Dr. Mark Burgess and Dr. Janet Bardell.
On a recommendation from a friend, Anna met Michael in Cooksville, IL in 2009. Anna and Michael shared a love of quiet, country living, and on May 25, 2014, they married in the woods along the Mackinaw River behind their home in rural Colfax.
She loved her three children dearly and was an avid supporter of all their activities: softball, baseball, football, and cheerleading, to name a few. She enjoyed the outdoors with her family and had fond memories of times in Toluca at the lake with her parents and siblings and at Toluca's Labor Day festivities. With Michael, she hunted, fished and attended her first of many duck-blind drawings in Western Illinois. They shared their love of outdoors with their children. She took pride in caring for her family and her home. A naturally good cook, Anna enjoyed making pierogies with her family and birthday cakes for her children. She collected Polish pottery and loved house plants.
Anna's tenacity of spirit and strong will served her well on her cancer journey. She endured many difficult treatments and procedures—always with courage, strength and hope without complaint.
To know Anna was to love Anna. She was open, kind, and genuine and made friends wherever she went. She loved fully and without judgment. Anna will be forever missed and remembered by those who loved her.
