Anne P. Higgins Schopp, 86 of Chenoa, passed away at 4:04am, Friday, January 27, 2017at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Her Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa; with Father Carl LoPresti officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chenoa.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa; and 9:30 – 10:15 am Wednesday at the Funeral Home in Chenoa. A Rosary will be recited at the conclusion of the visitation also at the funeral Home in Chenoa on Tuesday night.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Chenoa Peace Meals or St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chenoa.
Anne was born July 16, 1930 at St. James Hospital, Pontiac; the daughter of James P. and Agnes (McCarthy) Donovan. Anne and her twin sister, Mary, were baptized and confirmed at Ashkum Catholic Church. Anne and Mary were fortunate to be able to attend St. Angela Academy, Morris, for one school year.
The Donovan family moved to Chenoa in August 1945. Anne was a 1948 graduate of Chenoa Community High School. Following graduation, Anne and her twin sister, Mary, went to work at State Farm in Bloomington. Anne entered Illinois State Normal University in `1949, in her words, returning to real world in June 1951 when she became an assistant to the buyer of women's dresses at Roland's in Bloomington.
On June 20, 1953, she married Thomas E. Higgins II at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chenoa. Tom preceded her in death March 17, 1992. On July 22, 1995 Anne was married to Donald J. Schopp at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Don preceded her in death on October 26, 2001. At Anne's 55 th class reunion, Anne reconnected with classmate, Joseph R. Scott. Joe was her faithful and loving companion until his death.
Anne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chenoa, and the Altar and Rosary Society and had served as President. She was also a Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Chenoa and she was the site supervisor of Chenoa Peace Meals for many years.
Anne is survived by three children, Thomas A. (Jorj Ann) Higgins of Chenoa, Rita E. (Tom) Hefty of Evanston, IL and Timothy P. Higgins of Forest Park, IL; three grandchildren, Thomas, Kate and Claire Hefty; one sister, Agnes "Aggie" (James) Yeakel of Panama City Beach, FL; one brother, John (Jane) Donovan of Albany, OR; and one sister-in-law, Connie Donovan of Morris.
Anne was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James L. and Joseph J. Donovan; and two sisters, Mary Haas and Rose Gildner Witous.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to, the CNA's and nurses at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Dr. Samuel Steffen and Dr. Kyle Reynolds for the care given to their mother.
