Fairbury – Barbara J. Winterland, 87, of Fairbury passed away at 3:10 am, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Indian Creek Country Club, Fairbury. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury has charge of arrangements.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Dominy Memorial Library, Fairbury or the Salvation Army.

Barbara was born in Fairbury hospital on June 19, 1929, to Andrew and Edith (VanAlstyne) Steidinger. She married N. E. "Hap" DeFries. They divorced. She later married Glenn Winterland on December 27, 1991, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Colfax. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2011.

She is survived by her children Paul (Mary) DeFries, Jon (Brenda) DeFries, Alan (Peggy) DeFries; all of Fairbury and Maggie (George) Miller of New Kent, VA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She loved playing bridge and following politics. She liked to say her claim to fame was that she marched in a parade for Alf Landon in 1936.
