Obituary

Colfax – Bernard Joseph Grosse, 85, of Colfax, passed away at 9:50pm, April 11, 2014 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Normal.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am, Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Colfax. Fr. Carl LoPresti will be officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.

Visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm, Monday, April 14, 2014, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax.

Memorials may be Davis-Kerber American Legion, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Colfax or Alzheimer's Association.

Bernard was born February 11, 1929 in Anchor the son of Joseph and Minnie Lorig Grosse. He married Maxine Felkamp on February 5, 1955 in Merna. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Susan (Curt) Reynolds of Springfield, Martin (Linda) Grosse of San Antonio, TX, Timothy (Denise) Grosse of Whitsett, NC, Angela (Jim) Bradd of Saybrook, and Daniel (Marcia) Grosse of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Natalie (John) Lopez, Aubrey and Alistair Reynolds, Alice (Ryan) Pennell, Lindsey (fiancé Jason Speaks) Grosse, Rebecca (fiancé Charlie Morefield) Bradd, Rachel Bradd, and Lauren and Allen Grosse; two great-grandddaughters; and one great-grandson; brother, Eugene (Elaine) Grosse of Colfax and sister, Helen (Kenneth) Weber of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kristina Sewell, two great-granddaughters, Isabel and Caitlyn Lopez; sisters, Louise Small and Alice Martins.

Bernard was a farmer in the Anchor area and was a rural mail carrier for Anchor and Cropsey for 20 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Marines from 1950-1952.

Bernard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Colfax, Davis Kerber American Legion, Colfax for 61 years.

He served on the Octavia School Board and was a volunteer fireman for the Anchor Fire Department.

The Grosse family would like the thank the staff at Sugar Creek Alzheimer Care Center and Hospice Compassus for the dignity and respect give to Bernard and his family during his stay.
