Obituary
Bernice G. Hirstein, 102, Fairbury died at 6:20 pm Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Forrest with the Rev. David Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Twp. Cemetery, Forrest. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church, Forrest or Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
Mrs. Hirstein was born July 8, 1909 in Forrest, IL the daughter of Steve and Nettie Schaub Allen. She married Clarence M. Hirstein on June 27, 1936 at the United Methodist Church of Forrest. He died on March 15, 2004.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Hirstein, Fairbury and a special relative, Janet Denny) Greear, Forrest, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Allen, Fairbury.
Mrs. Hirstein is also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean Hirstein and a brother, Cyril Allen.
She was a 1927 graduate of Forrest Twp. High School and received her teaching certificate from Illinois State University in 1929. Upon receiving her teaching certificate she taught grade school in Streator for several years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Forrest and the women of the church; a lifetime member of the Evenglow Lodge Guild; American Legion Auxiliary, Forrest; Indian Creek Country Club and enjoyed playing bridge.
