Bernita J. Hannie , 87, of Hoopeston, passed away at 6:55 am Saturday, October 16, 2021 at her residence in Hoopeston surrounded by her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a family graveside service and celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bernita's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bernita was born February 20, 1934 in Chenoa, a daughter to William and Bernadine Ruth (Phillips) Frederick.   Her parents, one brother, Warren Frederick and one daughter in-law, Carla Hannie also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherree (Brien) Benjamin of Hoopeston; Diane (Tim) Maul of Republic, MO; Jeff (Ronda) Hannie of Conway, AR; Rodney Hannie of rural Pontiac; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Bernita grew up on a farm in Livingston County and graduated from Fairbury High School and later attended Illinois State University, Normal. When she married Richard Hannie, they moved to Hawaii and later to Hoopeston where they started their family; raising her children and caring for their pets was her life. She enjoyed animals, camping and traveling to visit her family.

She worked at Sears in Hoopeston and the Hoopeston Nursing home before retiring.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
