Pontiac – Betty J. Carothers, 88 of Pontiac, formerly of Fort Myers, FL; died at 7:51am, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at The Pointe, Pontiac.

Funeral services will be 3 pm, Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury; with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded at the conclusion of the service on Sunday; with a private inurnment to be held at a later date.

Visitation will be 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 17, 2019 also at the funeral home in Fairbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Illinois Art Education Association or First Baptist Church of Fairbury.

Mrs. Carothers was born on July 18, 1931 in Sikeston, MO; the daughter of Ray and Myrtle (Lemley) Welborn.  She married John Calvin Carothers on February 6, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, MO.  Her husband passed away in 2011.  Her parents, two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.

Survivors include, one daughter, Linda Hoffman of Fairbury; one son, John Carothers of Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Carolyn Montgomery of Dexter, MO; six granddaughters, Amy Jackson-Carothers, Laura (Matt) Brauman, Jennifer (Mark) Ward, Sharon Bachman, Rebecca Young, and Kate (Luke) Fehr and 15 great grandchildren.

Betty was very creative, her love of the Arts stimulated numerous paintings and art work shared by her family and friends today. She loved her Lord and Savior and if you ever met her you would know she was not at all ashamed of it.  Her quick whit and creative story telling will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.
