Obituary

Betty L. Wharton, 85, Fairbury, died at 6:30pm Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Friday, March 29, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury with Pastor Spencer Homan officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. The family suggests memorials be given to the Alzheimer's Association; American Cancer Society; Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa or the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury.

Mrs. Wharton was born July 16, 1927 in Fairbury, IL the daughter of Lester E. and Hazel Marie Butler Travis. She married Robert E. "Bob" Wharton on September 25, 1949 in Fairbury. He survives.

Also surviving is one son, Robert V. "Bob" Wharton and one daughter, Deborah Ann Augsburger, both of Fairbury, grandchildren, Benjamin Wharton, Jodi Wharton, Matthew (Jayme) Curl, and Jeffery (Bridget) Curl, great grandchildren, Cole Shawback, Dany and Sydnee Wharton, Katy, Tyler, Ellie Curl and baby girl Curl due this summer whom she so badly wanted to meet. Brothers and sisters, Goldie Carlson, Martin (Brenda) Travis, Martha (Bob) Beckley, all of Fairbury, Marvin Travis, Hudson; Maurice (Martha Lynn) Travis and Chester (Marilyn) Travis, Marshall, MI; Mary Rose Blodgett, Homer, MI; Shirley (Fred) Casper, Pontiac and Robert (Diane) Travis, Forrest.

She is preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Travis.

Mrs. Wharton was a 1945 graduate of Fairbury Twp. High School. After graduation she worked at State Farm, Bloomington and later as a bookkeeper for Fairbury Auto Parts and at their Standard Oil Service Station, Fairbury. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury and the Presbyterian women. She was a gold member of the Fairbury American Legion Auxiliary and past president of Navy mothers.
