Boyd Randall Kiper, 80, Fairbury, died at 4:00 am Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, November 25, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury with Pastor Ed Hudelson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30 – 10:15 am Monday at the church. The family suggest memorials be given to the Arc, advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury.
Mr. Kiper was born August 12, 1933 in rural Chenoa, IL, the son of Russell and Lillian Stone Kiper. He married Marilyn Hornecker on September 12, 1959 in Ottawa, IL. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving is one son, Tim (Darcie) Kiper, Normal, IL; one daughter, Gail (Brad) Gulliford, Fairbury; five grandchildren, Derrick, Mitchell and Natalie Gulliford, Ryan and Kyle Kiper; three sisters, Marcella Hurt, Columbus, OH; Doris (Harold) King, Oregon; Rebecca Bohm, Greeley, CO; four brothers, Jack (Suzanne) Kiper, Naples, FL; Darvin (Denice) Kiper, Freeport, IL; Gary Kiper, Lancaster, WI; Terry (Patsy) Kiper, Oswego, IL.
He is preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Mr. Kiper was a 1952 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School where he was voted as a Mid-State All Conference football athlete. After high school he served in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Mr. Kiper owned and operated Randall's Liquor, Fairbury. He was a member and past council member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury. He cared deeply for his family as well as the community in which he served.
