Obituary

Carley Fern Troehler of Fairbury died on Monday, September 22, 2008, her 84th birthday, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL, following a brief illness. She was born September 22, 1924, in Champaign, the daughter of Verne Hugh and Lena Fern Allen Shoemaker. She married Virgil E. Troehler in Fairbury on December 11, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1982. She is survived by her son Phillip Troehler and his wife Diane of Fairbury, and her grandson Nicholas of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her special sister-in-law Noel Shoemaker of Sadorus, IL, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Kenneth, Verne Allen, Harris, and Jewel, and her sister Margaret. In years past, she attended the Fairbury United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Carley worked for many years in the Greenbrier Nursing Home and Clark Lindsay Village in the Champaign/Urbana area where she was a supervisor in their dietary departments. She also was employed as an in-home health care provider for several years in Champaign. Carley will be cremated and inurnment will be in the Lewis Cemetery in Douglas County, IL, in a private service. There will be no visitation. Her family will observe a celebration of her life in Sadorus, IL. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury has charge of arrangements.
