Fairbury: Carolyn Marie Boles, 94, formerly of Fairbury and Chenoa, passed away at 6:30 pm, Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Colfax, IL.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to service Thursday at the church. Her funeral will be 10 am, Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating. Burial will follow in Fairbury Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Fairbury.
Carolyn was born on January 2, 1914 in Forrest, the eldest child of Mano and Anna (Metz) Harms. She married Andrew M. Rapp on February 14, 1935 in Chenoa. He passed away on October 26, 1974. She later married Clyde Boles on September 1, 1978 in Fairbury. He passed away on May 24, 2005.
She is survived by two sons; Charles (Loretta) Rapp, Middletown, MD, and Don (Mary) Boles, Peoria, IL, one daughter; Beverly Brucker, Bloomington, IL, five brothers; Sam Harms, Lexington, Willis Harms, Pontiac, Edwin Harms, Forrest, John Harms and Donald "Duke" Harms both of Fairbury, three sisters; Olive Stephens and Mary Lou King both of Fairbury and Verna Ripsch, Morris, IL, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Richard Allen Rapp, two brothers, Harold and Glenn Harms, a son in-law John Brucker and a great granddaughter, Peyton Delaine Rapp.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fairbury and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chenoa.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, IL or Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Colfax, IL
Carolyn and Andy co-owned and operated Andy's Ice Cream Parlor in the 1940's and 1950's and they later operated Andy's Dairy Mart, which served the first soft ice cream in Fairbury. She also worked as head cook in the Fairbury school system before working at the Fairbury Dress Factory.
In retirement, she and Clyde enjoyed spending their winters with friends in Florida and the closeness of their extended family at home. In her spare time she enjoyed to cook, sew and garden.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Carolyn's caregivers at Heritage Manor, Colfax for the love and care they provided in the later stages of her life.
