Catherine "Cathie" L. Bashford

Fairbury — Catherine “Cathie” Bashford, 81, of Chenoa, passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Carle Bromen Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Cathie was born on November 26, 1944, in Pontiac, a daughter of Charles “Fred” and Catherine (Kunkel) Eppel. She married Floyd Bashford on September 13, 1963. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2013.

Survivors include her two sons, Steven (Heidi) Bashford and Gary (Normalynne) Bashford, both of Fairbury; four grandchildren, Kinzey (Jeff) Potter, Shelby (Pilar) Bashford, Jordan (Tiffany) Bashford, and Jallen (Vanessa) Bashford; and eight great-grandchildren: Zaniel, Adeline, Kannon, Avery, Maverick, Theodore, Oakley, and Vivianna. She is also survived by six siblings, Lorraine (Steve) Laub, Doris Grunloh, Sue (Terry) Killian, Bettie Arndell, Jarlath (Kathy) Eppel, and Shirley Bayless.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother John T. Eppel, infant sister Mary Francis Eppel, and brother Charles Eppel.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Pontiac, with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A 1962 graduate of Chenoa High School, Cathie enjoyed going shopping and sharing coffee dates with her friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will deeply miss her.
