Chenoa – Charles Robert Kylander, 79, of Chenoa IL, passed away at 1:48 pm, September 21, 2026, at Westminster Village, Bloomington IL.

Cremation has been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Chenoa Public Library or St. Paul’s Lutheran of Chenoa.

Charles was born February 16, 1947, in Winfield, IL, and grew up in Wheaton, IL, the son of Charles Orson and Eleanor Niedert Kylander. He married Martha Streid on December 20, 1969. She survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Jason Kylander of Chandler, AZ, and Nathan Kylander of Normal IL; sisters-in-law, Sue Kylander of McHenry, IL, Elizabeth (Ed) Easley of Chenoa, Jackie Streid (Chuck Fischer) of Darien; brother-in- law, Tom (Cindy) Streid of Chenoa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marla (Charles) Hershburger, and brother, Ralph Kylander.

Charles graduated from Eureka College in 1973 in Business Administration. Soon after graduation, Charles started work at Eureka Vacuum Company in Bloomington IL where he was the National Credit Manager. During his 25 years with Eureka was a member of many National Credit Associations.

Charles and Martha raised their family in Chenoa. While living in Chenoa, he was very active in his community. He was a board member and board president of the Chenoa School District, a member of the Chenoa Jaycees, and was troop leader for the Boy Scouts Troop 22. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chenoa, where he was a youth group leader.

In 2004, Charles and Martha moved to Louisiana and spent 20 years in Baton Rouge. Charles loved exploring the deep south and eating many oysters on the half shell. After retirement, Charles enjoyed taking adult education classes at LSU.

Charles loved working in the yard with his boys in the morning and golfing with the family in the afternoons on most weekends. Charles finally hit his shot of a lifetime with a hole-in-one in 2000. Charles loved traveling with Martha, surprising her and their sons with a train trip through interior Alaska in 2019.
