Charles "Chuck" Schahrer, 83, of Fairbury passed away at 11:29 am on Monday, July 9, 2012 at ASTA Care Center, Pontiac.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, July 13, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Steven Livengood officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with military rites conducted by Fairbury American Legion Post #54 and VFW Post #9789.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday July 12, 2012 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to, SELCAS, First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, Livingston County 4H Fair, ASTA Care Center, Pontiac or Brian J. Munz Safety Complex.
Chuck was born March 12, 1929 in Forrest the son of JG "Jack" and Ella (Metz) Schahrer. He married Helen Chapman on September 18, 1955. She passed away on March 21, 1997. He later married June (Henry) Whitman on June 16, 2006. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include, one son, Thomas (Pamela) Schahrer of Forrest; three daughters, Susan (Keith) Rinkenberger of Forrest; Sally (Gregory) Magsamen of White Heath; Peggy (Vincent) Kocher of Mahomet; step children, Alan (Jo) Whitman, Chatsworth; Marcia (Jim) Moranski, Evans, GA; Steven (Karen) Whitman, Cullom; David Whitman, Charlotte, NC; Nancy (Jim) Leskanich, Dwight; one brother, Jerry (Carol) Schahrer of Crossville, TN; grandchildren, Scott Schahrer, Jeremiah (Larissa) Rinkenberger, Jacob & Jason Rinkenberger, Kristen & Cory Magsamen, Alex & Aaron Kocher, Kate, Joseph, Andrew, Westin, Payton, Christina, Alex & Ally Whitman, Kiley Moranski, Lindsay, Shane and Gracyn Leskanich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Helen Schahrer.
Chuck was a 1947 graduate of Fairbury High School then attended Business School for one year. Charles served our country in the US Army during the Korean War as a Corporal. He was a member of Fairbury American Legion John Joda Post #54, First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, Fairbury Fair Board, Livingston County 4-H Board and Livingston County Farm Bureau.
After returning from the service, over the years he was employed by Honegger Feed Mill, Thrive Center, Maurer & Roth Construction, Stoller & Maurer Construction, Vissering Construction, JR Electric and Popejoy Plumbing & Heating. Chuck's passions were his family, working, card games, volunteering and watching "Wheel of Fortune".
