IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlotte Dorothy
Stoops
October 20, 1928 – April 2, 2024
Cooksville -Charlotte Dorothy Stoops – It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of our matriarch, Charlotte Dorothy Stockle Stoops, age 95. She passed away at her home while under hospice care on April 2, 2024.
Charlotte was born on October 20, 1928, in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, Illinois. She was the first of 8 children born to Alfred Otto Stockle and Dorothy Aileen Nutt Stockle.
She married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Stoops, on July 29, 1949, shortly after he returned from serving in the Army during the World War II.
Charlotte lived out her life on the Stoops Farm where she and Wayne moved shortly after their marriage. Charlotte was quick to lend a hand to neighbors and friends and touched many lives with her generosity. She, forever, was a self-starter and excelled in practically anything she pursued. She was a talented artist, expert flower and vegetable gardener, accomplished needleworker, and hand-made hundreds of porcelain dolls. She always had a book by her side and loved the outdoors and feeding the birds and squirrels. Regardless of the season, one often could see her riding around the farm on her favorite mode of transportation - her John Deere Gator! Charlotte's greatest accomplishment and source of pride was her family. She was always available to provide advice and support unless she had to drive a tractor to help harvest the crops. She was also deeply devoted to her faith and had a very close, personal relationship with God.
She leaves behind three sons: Terry (Barbara), Gary (Cathy), and Steve; and three sisters, Mary (Ronald) Poppe, Shirley Worthington, and Donna Hahn; and brother-in-law, Jerry Nord. She is also survived by eight grandsons, one granddaughter; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a large number of nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Charlotte and her farm dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; granddaughter, Jean Stoops; two brothers and their wives, David "Bud" and Waneta, and Alfred "Red" and Rosemary; sister, Nancy Nord; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Worthington and Scot Hahn, along with a newborn sister, Ruth.
In accordance with Charlotte's wishes, cremation has been accorded.
A visitation will be held from 2-4:00 pm, Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax.
The family will have a private burial service where her ashes will be interred next to her husband at the Blue Mound Township Cemetery.
Charlotte lived a long, wonderful life and served well as the family matriarch with love and kindness. She is now on her way to her next journey and will forever be lovingly remembered by her family.
If you wish to remember her in a special way, donations may be made to Cooksville Fire Department.
