Cooksville – Daniel Howard Wissmiller, 76, of Cooksville, passed away May 4, 2024, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Blue Mound Cemetery, Cooksville. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm at the Cooksville Fire Department also on Saturday.
Visitation will be held from 3-7:00pm, Friday, May 10, 2024, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home. Colfax.
Memorials may be made to the Cooksville Fire Department.
Dan was born February 27, 1948, in Cooksville, the son of Eldon "Doc" and Josephine "Doey" (Kruse) Wissmiller.
Surviving are his sons, Scott (Christie) Wissmiller and Eric (Miriah) Wissmiller both of Cooksville; special angel and special love, Jane Dameron of Colfax and her children and grandchildren; grandchildren, Hayley (Brayden) Nash, Ethan, Delanie, and Logan Wissmiller; great-grandsons, Kit and Lux Nash; siblings Mike Wissmiller of Cooksville, Peggy Bliss of Bloomington, and Pam (Mark) Dehner of Clover, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Karen Kindig, Frank, and Joe Wissmiller.
Dan was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam War from September 1968-November 1969. He was extremely proud of his service, earning several medals.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 40 years. He loved his work and didn't consider it such.
Dan was a member of the Cooksville Fire Department for over 50 years, serving 31 of them as the Fire Chief. He also served as a Trustee for the Octavia Fire District for the last several years.
Dan's work ethic could not be matched and has been instilled in his sons and grandchildren who he was incredibly proud of.
He was well known for his ingenuity, out side the box problem solving and willingness to help others.
