Saybrook – Darrel Simpsen, 89, passed away at 7:50 a.m., August 26, 2024 six months after his wife.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. Pastor Dan Jassman will be officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Friday also at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor or McLean County Beef Barn.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Darrel was born July 20, 1935, in Anchor Township, the son of Albert and Hulda (Schleeter) Simpsen.
Darrel married the love of his life Dottie Hellen Stone on December 31, 1955. She died on February 26, 2024.
Surviving are his children, Shawn (Lorann) Simpsen of Colfax, Tanya (Phil) Donelson of Clinton, and Dane (Dawn) Simpsen of Colfax; grandchildren, Chase (Aja), Kyle (Telisa) Simpsen, Courtney (Darryl) Patteson, Taylor (Frank) Carbonetti, and Riley (Josh) Lorenz; great-grandchildren, Dash, Remi, Otto, Cambree, Kellan Simpsen, Knox and Charlie Patteson; sister, Alberta Zachay of Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Simpsen; sisters, Allyne Roach, Lois Lehman, and Shirley Cumpston; step-brother, James Rohrabaugh.
Darrel was a member of the Electrical Union in Indiana. He then owned and operated Simpsen Electric in 1964. He also farmed cattle and grain in the McLean County area.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a founding and lifetime member of Indian Springs Golf Course, Saybrook.
Darrel and Dottie moved to the family farm in 1963, where they built a lovely home to raise crops, livestock, and kids.
Darrel was very passionate about watching his kids, grandkids and now great-grandkids show cattle. He took pride in his flower garden and his beautiful farm.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Illinois Fan.
Darrel was a devoted caregiver for Todd his entire life of 32 years. After Todd's passing, Darrel and Dottie spent 20 wonderful years in Lake Alfred, Florida
where they made some of their dearest friends from around the world. They enjoyed golfing, family visits and mostly carport socializing.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers who loved and supported the entire family; Stasha, Sydney, Robin, Megan, Christy, Leslie, Andria, and Braelyn.
Darrel was known for his kind heart and his storytelling.
