Obituary

Darwin Keith Gillan, 81, Bloomington and formerly of Colfax, died, at 6:05 am Monday, September 6, 2010 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax with Rev. Pat Allin officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax with full military rites conducted by the Colfax American Legion Post #653.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. The family suggests memorials be given to the Colfax United Methodist Church or the Octavia Park District.

Mr. Gillan was born May 12, 1929 in Aurora, IL, the son of David "Les" and Gladys Mosley-Travis Gillan. He married Ilona M. Lorig on July 23, 1950 in Colfax, IL. She survives in Bloomington.

Also surviving is a daughter, Darcia Rene' Gillan, one sister, Delores Gillan, one brother, Melvin (Marilyn) Gillan, all of Bloomington, two sisters-in-law, Barbara Gillan, Bloomington, Darlene Gillan, Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Richard and Donald Gillan.

Dar was a 1947 graduate of Colfax High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections as a food supervisor retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Colfax American Legion post #653, the United Methodist Church of Colfax; he served on the Colfax village board and as mayor in the early 1970's. He also was a volunteer on the Fire Department.

Dar will be dearly missed by his family and many friends as well as his beloved Punkin and "Monster".
