David Roger Powell, 56 of Lexington formerly of Chenoa, passed away at 10:57 pm, Friday, April 8, 2011 at Advocate Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL.
His funeral will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Chenoa Baptist Church, Chenoa with Pastor Bill Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to the Drake Powell Education Fund c/o Commerce Bank, Lexington.
David was born August 4, 1954 in Fairbury the son of Euce "Dunk" and Helen (Mott) Powell. His father preceded him in death. He married Tammy K. Johnson on July 3, 1981 in Chenoa. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2006. He later married Martha Lahr on August 3, 2007 in Lexington. She survives in Lexington.
Other survivors include his mother, Helen Powell, Tremont; one son, Geoffrey (Kristin) Powell, grandson, Drake Powell, all of Lexington; one daughter, Jamie Powell (Josh Marthey), Fairbury; one sister, Carol (Jim) Shafer, Tremont; Nephew, Scott (Jennifer) Shafer, Cypress, TX; nieces, Carissa Shafer, Gilman, IL; Kimberly Shafer, Tremont, IL and several great nieces and nephews.
David was a 1972 graduate of Chenoa High School and had been employed by Union Roofing Inc., Chenoa for 38 years as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local Union #1, Ducks Unlimited, Lakewood Duck Club, Bath, IL and a former member of the Chenoa Baptist Church and Lexington Community Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman, waterfowl hunting, fishing golfing and playing pool with friends. David was a donor to Gift of Hope. He lived life to its fullest and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
