Obituary

David W. Steffen, 90, of Hudson passed away at 6:40 am, Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence at Lake Bloomington.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Church of Gridley with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Gridley Cemetery, Gridley.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall, Gridley and 9:00 to 9:45 am prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury has charge of arrangements.

Dave was born August 26, 1920 in Elgin, IL, the son of Jonathan and Ida (Wewetzer) Steffen. He married Emma Lou Huber on February 1, 1948 in Fairbury. She survives.

Other survivors include four children; Vicki (David) Zehr, Alan (Margi) Steffen, Mark (Kanda) Steffen, Brian (Krista) Steffen all of Gridley, three sisters; Betty Wiegand, Marion Miller, both of Eureka; Judy (Dick) Klopfenstein, Elgin; two brothers; Melvin (Leona) Steffen, Forrest; John (Wava) Steffen, Elgin; one brother in-law, Mel Schrock, Normal; one sister in-law, Eleanor Steffen, Morton; nine grandchildren, Matthew Zehr, Kelsey (Christopher) Stoller, Aimee, Jeremy and Mackenzie Steffen, Justin (Danielle) Steffen, Jennifer (Matthew) Young, Dylan and Sophia Steffen and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to OSF Hospice, Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury or SELCAS, Fairbury.

Dave was the founder of Dave's Supermarket, Fairbury. He started the business in 1950 after serving his country as a sergeant in the US Army during WWII. He was on the board of directors for SELCAS, Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Certified Grocer's Midwest and Illinois Food Retailers. He was a member of the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather that cherished being able to spend time surrounded by family and sharing special time with his grandchildren. Dave went "Home" for Christmas thanks to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
