Dean C. Decker, age 83, of Galesburg, formerly of Chenoa died on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 12:45 P.M. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on September 23, 1927 in Flanagan, Illinois the son of Theodore H. and Sever Mannott Decker. He married Dorla Pampel on June 5, 1949 at the Graymont Baptist Church in Graymont, Illinois. She survives in Galesburg, Illinois.
Also surviving is a daughter: Deana R. Boles of Chenoa, Illinois.
One son: Kenneth N. Decker of Strafford, Missouri
Four Grandchildren: Katie Decker, Emmaline Decker, Christina Boles and Kathleen Boles. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers (one died in infancy) and one sister.
He was raised and educated in Flanagan, Illinois. Mr. Decker served in the United States Navy during World War II and later in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War from November 1944 to June 1951. After his military service, he attended Coyne American Institute for the Electrical Trade and afterwards worked as a TV/Radio repairman for Harms Home Furnishing in Chenoa, Illinois. He then owned and operated his own business for a time before working for the former Maytag Corporation for over 25 years retiring in 1991 as a Technical Liaison.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of local arrangements. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa, Illinois. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of graveside services in Chenoa. There will be no visitation. The family requests no memorials or flowers.
