Dr. Delmar W. Schleder, 74 of Chenoa passed away at 12:02 am, Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa with Pastor Robb McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.
Dr. Schleder was born March 31, 1936 in Emden, the son of Marion and Lorraine (Groth) Schleder. He married Nancy Shirley on September 5, 1959 in Lincoln. She preceded him in death September 18, 1982. He later married Joyce Bogue on May 29, 1983 in Chenoa, she survives in Chenoa.
Also surviving are his children; Dr. Kristi Jo Schleder-Rogers (Greg), Ashville, NC, Brad Schleder, Visalia, CA, and Natalie (Tom) Lessaris, Champaign, step-children; Corinna (Kelly) McBride, Lexington, Stephen (Lisa) Bogue, Arrowsmith, two sisters; Geneva (James) Howard, Springfield, Jan (Gene) Semple, Lincoln, one brother; Bill (Helen) Schleder, Maroa, one sister in-law; Vicki Schleder, Lincoln, and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Jim Schleder.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa, Livingston County Humane Society, Pontiac or U of I College of Veterinary Medicine, Urbana.
"Doc" was a Hartsburg-Emden H.S. graduate and received his Bachelor's Degree in education at ISU, Normal. He taught 2 years at Normal Community HS then attended U of I College of Veterinary Medicine, Urbana graduating in 1964. He practiced in the communities of Chenoa and Pontiac for many years. He served on the board and was instrumental in starting the Livingston County Humane Society, Pontiac. He served as past President on the Chenoa Board of Education, was a volunteer on the Chenoa Fire Dept., Livingston County Fair Veterinarian, Chenoa Rotary and President of the Mississippi Valley Veterinary Association, member of the A.V.M.A. and a member of the U of I President's Council.
Del was a member of the Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa serving on numerous committees. He loved to golf, travel, and work in his yard but most of all loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
