Donald M. Schultz, 92, of Chenoa, passed away at 1:35am on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac where he had resided since November.
The visitation will be Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa from 4-7pm. The funeral will be Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:30am at Chenoa United Methodist Church. Burial will be immediately following at the Chenoa Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Chenoa VFW Post 8350.
Donald Myer Schultz was born December 16, 1917 in Pike Township. He was the son of Clarence and Maude (Myer) Schultz. He married Ellen Shane on September 7, 1947 in Pontiac, IL. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2002.
Surviving are one son, Richard (Karla) Schultz, Chenoa, one granddaughter, Amanda, Chenoa, four sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Anna Mae Smith.
He was educated in Chenoa country schools, and graduated Chenoa High School in 1935. He graduated from University of Illinois, College of Agriculture, in 1939. He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medical inspector. He began farming in 1946 on the family grain and livestock farm, retiring in 2007.
He was a life member of the American Legion, a 4-H leader for the Pike Helping Hands, a Director at Bank of Chenoa for 30 years, a Chenoa Drainage District Commissioner, and a Director for the Ocoya-Prairie Central Grain Co-Op for 20 years. He also served on the Chenoa high School Board of Education, was a life member of Pontiac Elks Club, and was a life member of University of Illinois Alumni Association and a member of the Chenoa United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chenoa United Methodist Church or Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac. He was well-respected in the community, loved by his family, and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
