Obituary

Donald E. Steidinger, 75, Fairbury, met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday (Feb. 17, 2011) while trucking near Kickapoo, Illinois.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. at Fairbury Apostolic Christian Church on Monday February 21, 2011. Burial will be in South Apostolic Christian Cemetery, rural Fairbury. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday February 20, 2011 at Duffy Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury and 9:00 to 9:45 am Monday at the church.

Donald was born September 22, 1935, near Fairbury, the son of Urban & Ollie Moser Steidinger. He married Alice Menold February 26, 1961 in Sabetha, Kansas.

He is survived by nine children: John (Pam) of Murfreesboro TN; LuAnn (Larry) Hartzler of Creston OH; Ted (Sara) of Cropsey; Amy Bahler, Bloomington; Mary Lynn (Steve) Stoller, Sterling OH; Jay (Amy), Forrest; Darwin (Laurie), Bloomington; Ryan (Lori), Fairbury; and Chris (Carol), Princeville.

Also surviving are six brothers: Maurice (Ruth), Charles (Joann), Thomas (Diane), Eldon (Darlene), Dennis (Jane) all of Fairbury and Dave (Deann) of Cropsey. Surviving sisters are: Mary Lou (Elmer) Kaeb, Cissna Park; Marjorie Edelman, Sabetha KS; Velda (Karl) Glueck, Tremont; Barbara McDonald, Fairbury; and Judy (Terry) Bachtold, Forrest, 24 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth who died in infancy, one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Donald served in Germany during the Korean conflict. He was a part of Steidinger Shelling Service and farmed for many years near Strawn, Illinois. He has been a truck-driver for 30+ years, lately employed by Associated Transfer of Champaign. Donald gave of his time to World Relief, trucking aide across the country and working in Haiti. He created many memories, hosting his large family every year at Thanksgiving. His greatest joy, surpassed only by his love of Jesus, was when his family gathered together. He had a big heart that never stopped giving to others. He was a member of the Fairbury Apostolic Christian Church.
