Obituary

Dorothy L. Countryman, 101, of Meadows passed away at 1:17 pm, Friday, July 31, 2009 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.

Graveside services will be 11 am, Monday, August 3, 2009 at Gilman Cemetery, Gilman with Pastor Steve Estes officiating. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa has charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born August 7, 1907 in LaHogue the daughter of Denver and Harriett (Maynard) Lee. She married Calvin Countryman on August 4, 1951. He passed away April 16, 1983.

Survivors include; one nephew; Donald (Martha) Smith, Fairbury, four great nieces; Marcia Easter, Charleston, Jayne (Don) Trowitch, Fairbury, Kim (Mark) Traub, Charleston, and Janet (Greg) Leake, Lexington.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; Angeline Smith and Dorris Gilman.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa or Wesley United Methodist Church, Charleston.

Dorothy was a 1925 graduate of Normal Community H.S. She received her Bachelors Degree at the University of Chicago and her Master's Degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign. Dorothy taught secondary education for 16 years at numerous schools in Illinois and completed her career at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Charleston.
