Fairbury - Dorothy B. Cox, 84 of Bradenton Florida; died on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was a part time resident of Fairbury, IL until 2011. It was an area close to her husbands heart, Logan O. Cox and they spent many happy summers with friends and family. She had been living at Freedom Village in Bradenton, FL. at the time of her death.
Dorothy was born and raised in New York, New York (Brooklyn and the Bronx); on June 11, 1937. The daughter and eldest of three children to Jack and Bianca (Iorio) Federico. She married her first husband Thomas E. Deasy in 1957. They had two children.
As a young, suburban mother in New Jersey, she was active as a Girl Scout leader and involved in the League of Women Voters. She petitioned the town of Glen Rock to install a delayed-red traffic light after several auto accidents near her home. In the 1960's, she worked as a bookkeeper and administrator for small businesses and local government. She organized and established the first school lunch program for working mothers at Glen Rock Elementary School. When her family moved to Illinois in the early 1970's, she worked as an administrator at Price-Waterhouse in Chicago, Il, becoming the first female manager for the firm. She was active in the feminist movement and was an early member of Women Employed. Dorothy eventually became a facilities manager for Beatrice Foods and facilities consultant for Tropicana in Florida.
In 1985, she married her second husband, Logan Otis Cox of Cropsey, IL. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2013. She is survived by her children Theresa Deasy of Trinity, FL; and Dorothy Deasy (James Walz), of Vancouver, WA; her sister Linda Signorini and brother Frank Federico and step-sons Thomas (Debi), Steven (Mary) and Timothy Cox.
A graveside inurnment will take place in Cropsey Twp. Cemetery, Cropsey, IL. There will be no public services at this time, Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy Cox had a generous heart for people in need. In lieu of flowers, please make any donation to a person or non-profit of your choice.
