Obituary
Fairbury - Dorothy Tollensdorf, 81, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on October 12, 2009 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. Burial will be in Avoca Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be held from 5-8:00pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 also at the Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born April 3, 1928 in Chenoa the daughter of Lee and Nancy Pickett Newkirk. They preceded her in death.
She married John Tollensdorf on September 8, 1951 in Fairbury. He survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are her children, Denise (Jack McDermott) Tollensdorf of Galena, John Tollensdorf, Jr. and Doug (Theresa) Tollensdorf both of Fairbury; granddaughters, Jenna (Justin Schroen) Tollensdorf and Chelsea Tollensdorf; one sister, Shirley (Cubby) White of Chenoa.
Dorothy was preceded in death by one sister Mary Newkirk.
She was a graduate of Chenoa High School and was employed at State Farm Insurance before she married.
Dorothy was an antique collector and history buff. She assisted her husband in getting Fairbury's Old City Hall and the Beach House on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Her love of flowers and plants was much enjoyed and she will be deeply missed by family and friends.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Dominy Memorial Library Building Fund or Brian Munz Safety Complex/SELCAS.
