Obituary

Saybrook, Dottie Hellen, Simpsen, 92, of Saybrook, passed away peacefully at her beloved farm, surrounded by her loving family, at 7:31p.m., February 26, 2024.

Cremation has been accorded.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. Inurnment will be in St. John's Lutheran Church, Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11-1:00p.m., also on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or OSF Hospice.

Dottie was born September 10, 1931, in Dycusburg, KY, the daughter of Frank and Lula (Harpending) Stone. She married the love of her life, Darrel Simpsen on December 31, 1955, in Merriville, IN. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Shawn (Lorann) Simpsen of Colfax, Dane (Dawn) Simpsen of Colfax, and Tanya (Phil) Donelson of Clinton; five grandchildren, Chase (Aja) Simpsen, Kyle (Telisa) Simpsen, Courtney (Darryl) Patteson, Taylor (Frank) Carbonetti, Riley (Josh) Lorenz; and great-grandchildren, Dash, Remi, Otto, Cambree and Kellan Simpsen, Knox and Charlie Patteson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Todd, three sisters and two brothers.

Dottie and Darrel moved to the family farm in 1963, where they built a lovely home to raise their children. Dottie first worked at M&W Gear Company in Anchor. She then worked side by side with Darrel at Simpsen Electric, eventually retiring with 25 years of service at Gibson City Area Hospital.

Dottie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. Her son Todd attended school until his adult life at the MARC Center. Dottie was heavily involved and had a seat on the board. Darrel and Dottie were founding members of Indian Springs Country Club in Saybrook. She loved to golf. She was a member of the Swinging Squaws Women's Club. While in Florida she was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Dottie was very passionate about her immense vegetable garden, canning, cooking and flowers. She was an extremely devoted caregiver for Todd his entire life for 32 years. After Todd's passing, Darrel and Dottie spent 20 wonderful years, wintering, in Lake Alfred, FL, where they made some of their dearest friends from around the world. They enjoyed golfing, family visits and mostly carport socializing.

The family wants to thank OSF Hospice team for their love and care. Also, Dottie and Darrel have a care team that has made the remining days of her life comfortable and loved. Thank you Stasha, Sydney, Megan, Robin, Christy and Braelyn. "We Love You All"
