Obituary

Duane "Buck" Morris, 96, Fairbury died at 6:40 pm Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chenoa with Fr. Carl LoPresti officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a prayer service at 3:45 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be given to SELCAS, the Brian Munz Safety Complex, both in Fairbury or St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chenoa.

Mr. Morris was born November 23, 1917 in Piper City, IL the son of Joseph and Ella Koerner Morris. He married Mona Watterson in 1948 and later married Mary Baltz on January 22, 1970 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives in Fairbury.

Also surviving are his children, JoAnn Morris, Bloomington, IL, Jean Morris, Waukegan, IL, Mark Morris, Beaver Dam, WI, Judy (David) Surber, Fairbury, IL, step children, Sharon (Jay) Bianca, Jacksonville, FL, Lisa (Bob) Gibson, Fairbury, IL, Kevin Baltz, Chicago, IL, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother, Jack Morris, Champaign, IL.

He is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Mr. Morris was a 1936 graduate of Fairbury Twp High School. He served in the United States Air Force (1940-1946) and continued his service to our country in the active reserves retiring in 1970. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was employed as a postal worker at the Fairbury Post Office (1940-1974).

He was a member of the John Joda American Legion post 54, Fairbury (1946-present), the Fairbury Fair Association (1946-1977) serving as president (1967-1977). Between the years of 1974 and 2007 he was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He helped build scouting camps in Minnesota and later in Canada. When helping to open and close the scout camps each year Buck worked as chief cook.
