Fairbury: Earl E. Steffen, 64, of Fairbury, went home to be with Jesus at 4:14 pm, Thursday, May 1, 2008 in Arapahoe County, Colorado due to injuries sustained in a weather related traffic accident.
Visitation is from 2:30 to 7:30 pm, Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington-Normal located on the corner of Raab and Townda Barnes Rd. and 9:00 to 9:45 am Thursday at the church prior to the service. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury has charge of arrangements.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington-Normal with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will take place in South Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, following a meal served at the church.
Earl was born July 22, 1943 in Fairbury, IL a son to Samuel T. and Anna M. (Zehr) Steffen. He was united in marriage to Betty Ann Peters on September 22, 1968 in Bloomington. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are his mother Anna M. Steffen, Fairbury, one daughter; Sarah (Dennis) Brummitt, Cropsey, two sons; Johnathan Steffen, Fairbury, Dr. Samuel (Shelley) Steffen, Lexington, one sister; Louise (Furrer) (Lester) Zimmerman, Fairbury, one brother; Richard (Lou Ida) Steffen, Forrest and seven grandchildren; Kirsten, Sabin, William, Thaddeus, Benjamin, Nathan and Joseph..
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Hartzel Steffen.
Mr. Steffen was a farmer and small business owner in the Fairbury area all his life.
He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington-Normal. He was active in The Gideons, Berean Prison Ministries, Western Avenue Community Center and LINCenter, Bloomington and his Truck Stop Ministry. Big E would never let an opportunity go by to share the gospel with those he came in contact with. His business card read, "If you meet me and forget me you have lost nothing. If you meet Jesus Christ and forget him you have lost everything."
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to The Baby Fold, Normal or Western Avenue Community Center, Bloomington.
