Obituary
Dora Elizabeth Askew, 87, Fairbury died at 11:00 am Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Pontiac.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. The family suggests memorials be given to the Fairview Haven Nursing Home, comfort care program.
Elizabeth was born November 17, 1921 in Fairbury, IL the daughter of Dilah and Ruth Carter Fitzgerald. She married Robert Eldon Askew on November 8, 1941 in Pontiac, IL.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 68 years, one son, Eldon Wayne (Sharon) Askew, Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter, Betty Joan (Roger) Wilson, Lafayette, Indiana; one brother, Floyd (Marie) Fitzgerald, Oracle, Arizona; and two sisters, Jane Woodburn, La Mesa, CA and Constance Fitzgerald, Pontiac, IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Michael Wilson, Bloomington, IL; Tammy Olson, Des Moines, Iowa; Rebecca Askew, Encinitas, CA and Jennifer Askew, Alameda, CA; four great grandchildren, Peyton, Jacob, Sydney and Taylan.
Her parents and one brother, Roger Carter preceded her in death.
Elizabeth attended Fairbury schools. She farmed with her husband for 61 years (1941-2002). Liz also worked in the cafeteria at Westview Grade School during that time and sang in the Methodist Church choir for many years. She belonged to 147 and the Home Domestic Science club.
