Chatsworth: Elmer W. Dassow Jr, 87 of Chatsworth died at 10:20 pm on Friday, September 14, 2007 at Greenbrier Health Care Center, Piper City, IL.

His funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the United Methodist Church of Chatsworth with Pastor Ann Champion officiating the service. Burial will take place in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, IL.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, September 17, 2007 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to service at the church.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to United Methodist Church, Chatsworth.

Elmer was born August 17, 1920 in Chatsworth the son of Elmer and Anna (Larson) Dassow, Sr. They preceded him in death.

He married Dorothy Wagenseller on June 6, 1948 at the Wagenseller home in Fairbury. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Marla (Ervin) Fehr of Fairbury and Becky (Rusty) Barker of Chatsworth; three grandsons, Travis Barker of Aurora, CO, James "Jim" Barker of Saunemin, and Clinton "CJ" Barker of Forrest; and great-grandchildren, Dana, Hana, Hunter and Morgan Barker.

He was preceded in death by one brother Wilmer Dassow, one son, Leo Dassow, and one grandson, Dana Barker.

Elmer graduated from Chatsworth High School in 1938. After graduation he attended the Curtis Wright Technical School in California for two years.
He returned to Chatsworth and farmed with his father and brother. Besides farming he worked at Nichols Home Shield Factory formerly American Screen Factory in Chatsworth for a year.

Elmer was a member of United Methodist Church of Chatsworth.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1941-1945.

Elmer enjoyed going on long walks and looking for Indian artifacts, especially in the back field. He also liked to read and go on short afternoon trips.
