Obituary

Elmer S. Roth of Chenoa passed away at 10:25pm on November 18, 2009 at Fairview Haven in Fairbury, IL.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Chenoa United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Robb McCoy will be officiating.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chenoa United Methodist Church or Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.

Elmer was born July 7, 1918 in Forrest a son of Dan and Carrie Reiger Roth. He married Verna Bauer in 1943, who is deceased, and Arlene Hallock in 1974, and she died in 2004. He married Wilda Yoder Kennedy in 2005 and she survives.

He is survived by a son , Charles (Laurie) Roth of Fort Wayne, IN, daughters, Carol (Dale) Gerber of Ossian, IN and Barbara (William) Thomas of Monticello; step-daughter, Lissa (Brent) Thompson of West Bountiful, UT; two step-sons, William (Judy) Kennedy of Indianapolis, IN and Randy Hallock of Fairbury; 14 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild; one sister Leona Leman of Fairbury; and three brothers, Earl (Marilyn) Roth of Scottsdale, AZ, Marvin (Dorothy) Roth of LaSalle, and Leonard (Marilyn) Roth of Forrest. His parents, a sister Barbara Kilgus and two brothers, Eldon Roth and Lester Roth preceded him in death.

Elmer was associated with Honegger and Company for 28 years and retired as Vice President of Marketing. In the position he traveled extensively for the company, flying his own plane 600-800 hours per year. He also held a position in marketing with Parkhill Motors in Champaign for ten years. After retiring to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, he found retirement too dull and bought a marina. He enjoyed fishing and big game hunting in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Canada.

Elmer was a life member and an officer in the American Business Club (AMBUCS) National Association in Champaign. He was also a member of the Elk's Club, Forrest American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Lifetime Shriner, and the VFW. He was a member of the Chenoa United Methodist Church.

Elmer served in the U.S. Army in World War II, with three years spent in Texas in a training unit and one year spent in the European theater in the Battle of the Bulge and with the Army of Occupation.

Elmer loved people. He had many friends and never spoke ill of anyone. He loved playing card, flying in his plane, and phoning his family members.
