Elverta Marie Taylor, 100, Chenoa died at 5:56 pm Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 1, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa with Pastor Jerry Koch officiating. Burial will be in Chenoa Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 am Friday at the church. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements. The family suggest memorials be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, both in Chenoa.
Mrs. Taylor was born September 12, 1913 in Yates Twp., McLean County, IL the daughter of Carl and Mary Pils Gerbracht. She married Evart Taylor on June 6, 1936 at St. Paul's parsonage, Chenoa, IL. He died on December 8, 2007.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Ronald) Mehrkens, Henry, IL, Connie (Gary) Leake, Lexington, IL, one son, Darvin (Mary) Taylor, Hoopeston, IL, 12 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and three nephews, Larry, Dale & Steven Oltman.
She is preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Schuler and one sister, Bernadine Oltman.
Elverta farmed with her husband in the Chenoa and Colfax area. She also worked at Livingston Manor for 6 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and family. She was a former member of the Monday Pinochle Ladies, Chenoa Garden Club, Merrymakers, Yates Home Extension and Cosmo Dance Club. She is a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chenoa.
