Elwin N. "Al" Norris, 89, Fairbury died at 12:02am Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, January 29, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Jerry Goode officiating. Full military rites conducted by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts following services. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm Friday at the memorial home. Entombment will take place at a later date at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Norris was born May 7, 1920 in Boone, NC, the son of Norman Cicero and Matilda Moretz Norris. He married Ethel "Lea" Baser on November 30, 1946 in Highland Park, MI. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are his children, Gary (Gail) Norris, Maribeth (Tom) Mies, both of Fairbury, and Roger Norris, Canton, Georgia, two brothers, David (Juanita) Norris, Boone, NC, John (Nancy) Norris, Warren, MI, two sisters, Ann Berger, Lawndale, NC, Carolyn Kitts, Fayetteville, NC, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one brother, five sisters, and one grandson.
Mr. Norris served in the United States Air force during WWII as a medic obtaining the rank of sergeant. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps during the depression and later worked as a production engineer at Nichols Homeshield, Chatsworth. He retired from Nichols Homeshield in 1985. He also was a member of the Church of Christ, Fairbury.
Mr. Norris was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was a deeply Christian man. He was an avid golfer and Cub fan. He will be missed and remembered fondly by those who knew him.
