Cooksville, - Elwood George Wissmiller, 92, of Cooksville passed away at 8:50 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. David O'Neall will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Blue Mound Cemetery, Cooksville.
Elwood was born August 3, 1916 in Cooksville the son of George Edward and Zodie Walton Wissmiller. He married Kathryn Messer on September 14, 1946 in Lexington. She passed away on November 10, 1991.
Surviving are two children, James E. (Georgia) Wissmiller of Chadds Ford, PA and K. Ann (Richard) Nelli of Maricopa, AZ; granddaughter, Dana (John) Maudsley; brother Evan Wissmiller of Cooksville and one sister Lucile Ude of Carol Stream.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Elwood graduated from Cooksville High School and attended ISU from 1936-1937. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII. He then farmed in the Cooksville area.
He is a member of Cooksville Union Church. He was past president of Cooksville Grain Co., longtime member of Octavia School Board and one of the founders of Octavia Manor.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Octavia Fire Department-Cooksville Division.
