Elwyne E. Metz, 83, Fairbury died at 12:02 am Thursday, July 10, 2008 at his residence in Fairbury.

His funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury with the Rev. Spencer Homan officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. The family suggests memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church, the Church Choir or to the South East Livingston County Ambulance Service.

Mr. Metz was born June 8, 1925 in Forrest, IL, the son of Lewis and Amy Hazelton Metz. He married Shirley I. Winterland on June 19, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury. She survives in Fairbury.

Also surviving are two sons, Roger (Lynn) Metz, Roberts, IL, Ray Metz, Northville, MI, three grandchildren, Derrek (Polly) Metz, Colleen Metz, Alex (Audrey) Metz, one sister, Wilma Freehill, Strawn, IL, and two brothers, Charles (Ann) Metz, Lynchburgh, VA and Donald (Lorena) Metz, Cullom, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Metz was a 1943 graduate of Strawn High School. He farmed in the Roberts area for 59 years raising Angus cattle, corn and soybeans. After his "retirement" he continued to enjoy helping his son Roger with the family farm. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, sang in the church choir and was a past Elder and Trustee of the church. Elwyne enjoyed reading and watching Cubs baseball. He also kept busy with his family and watching his grandchildren grow up.
