Obituary

Frank Vercler Ackerman, 94, of Chenoa, passed away at 10:36 pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.

His funeral will be 10am, Monday, December 12, 2011 at the River of Life Outreach Church, rural Chenoa with Pastor David Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Pike Twp. Cemetery, rural Chenoa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm, Sunday, December 11, 2011 also at the River of Life Outreach Church, rural Chenoa. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa or the Mennonite Central Committee.

Mr. Ackerman was born January 15, 1917 in Pike Twp., rural Chenoa, the son of William and Emma (Vercler) Ackerman. He married Susan Suderman on February 18, 1945 in Highland Park, MI. She passed away April 4, 2004

Survivors include one son, Ron (Nga) Ackerman of Chenoa; three daughters, Joyce (Donald) Baergen of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Lois (Rex) Smith of Park Ridge, IL; Doris (David) Egli of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Mary Miller of Snellville, GA; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Frank was a 1934 graduate of Chenoa High School and a lifelong member of Meadows Mennonite Church, Chenoa. Mr. Ackerman was a lifelong resident of Chenoa having been born on the Vercler homestead in Pike Twp. He followed his parents to the present home farm two miles south of Chenoa.

After serving his savior Jesus Christ and his country in the Civilian Public Service during WWII he returned to the family farm. Farming was his life and he managed to continue farming until he was 92 years of age.

The family is grateful to the friends and caretakers who have brought joy to him in the last couple of years at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community.
