G. Jean Sutter, 92 of Fairbury passed away at 9:46 pm, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
Her funeral services will be 10 am, Friday, May 11, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with Rev. Steven Livengood officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Jean was born November 3, 1919 in rural Fairbury, the daughter of William O. and Georgia (Sterling) Craig. She married Everett Sutter on September 28, 1942 in Fairbury. He passed away on March 10, 2005.
Survivors include one son, Craig B. Sutter of Urbana; one sister, Helen Fecske of Washington; one brother, Warren (Joy) Craig of Normal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sterling and Willard Craig.
In Lieu of flowers Jean requested that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, 200 East Maple St., Fairbury, Dominy Memorial Library, Building Fund, 201 South 3rd St., Fairbury or Fairview Haven Nursing Home 605 North 4th St., Fairbury.
Jean graduated from Fairbury Township High School and attended ISNU, Normal. She worked as a secretary in Normal, Washington, DC and Kansas City, MO. Jean and Everett lived in Detroit, MI; where their son was born. They returned to their home town of Fairbury where Jean became a member of Graceland Cemetery Board, serving as recording secretary for several years.
She was a member of the Fairbury American Legion Auxiliary. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, teaching Sunday school, President of United Methodist Women, Chairperson of the Hospitality Committee, member of administrative board and faithful member of the church choir for nearly 50 years. She belonged to two bridge clubs in the Fairbury area. Jean and her husband Everett volunteered driving for the American Red Cross and delivered Meals on Wheels to area shut-ins.
