George L. Steidinger, 90, Fairbury, died at 2:15 pm Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to Fairview Haven Retirement Community, in Fairbury or OSF Hospice.
Private funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with ministers of the Christian Apostolic Church of Fairbury officiating. Burial will follow the service in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Mr. Steidinger was born March 16, 1933, in Forrest, IL the son of Joseph and Bertha (Ifft) Steidinger. He married Caroline Wahlster formerly of Silverton, Oregon on March 1, 1959, in Silverton, OR. She preceded him in death on August 14, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ivan and Richard, three sisters Alta, Norma and Doris Steidinger, sisters-in-law, Kathryn Steidinger and Bertha Nyseth and brothers-in-law, Joseph Wahlster and Kermit Nyseth.
Also surviving are their children, James (Marlene) Steidinger, Fairbury, Duane (Debbie) Steidinger, Peoria, and Kay (Geoff) Bucher, Washington, IL. Ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Three sisters, Vera, Edna and Alice Steidinger, all of Fairbury, one brother, Joseph W. (Dorothy) Steidinger, Forrest, sisters-in-law, Anna L. Steidinger of Chatsworth and Carolyn Wahlster of Tujunga, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mr. Steidinger was a veteran from during the Korean War era, lifetime farmer and a member of the Christian Apostolic Church of Fairbury.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of those individuals who provided George with exceptional help, including his individual caretakers, the staff at Fairview Haven Retirement Community and OSF Hospice while he was in their care.
