Lt. Col. Glen E. Schrof, Armor, U.S. Army Reserves (Ret.), 87, passed away on April 15th, 2025.  He was born on a farm outside of Wing, IL., to Paul and Marie (Bach) Schrof.  He grew up exploring the beauty of the Vermilion River valley and graduated from Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School.  He enlisted and spent the next 27 years serving in the Army, National Guard, and Army Reserves.  He was well regarded as an Armor officer and instructor.

Glen married Janet Flessner of Cullom in 1961.  They were married for 50 years.  They lived on rented farms in the Forrest area before buying a farmstead of their own northwest of Forrest in 1967.  They raised all forms of livestock and crops, along with four children.  Glen stayed involved with many local organizations including the FFA Alumni and served as an occasional auctioneer.

Glen will be remembered by several nicknames: "Tony", "Nutsy", "Colonel", and "Glennie Boy", to name a few.  With a vein of wanderlust, he truly enjoyed fellowship, entertaining, visiting new places and meeting new friends.

Glen is survived by his four children, Kent (Melissa), Geoff (Janelle), Megan (Steve), and Derek (Jamie).   He is survived by 10 grandchildren, who will fondly remember Grandpa for his wit and character: Grant, Colin, Isaac, Maya, Elena, and Braden Schrof, and Ethan (Savannah), Trevor (Claire), Dylan, and Claire Wojtyla.  He is also survived by his brothers Edward and Vernon, and sister Carol Knapp.  He was preceded in death by his wife, and sister Harriet Farney.

A committal service will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 1:30 PM.  Prior to the brief committal service at the cemetery, family and friends are welcome to a lunch at the Silver Dollar in Elwood beginning at 11:30 AM.

Memorials can be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Forrest, The Illinois Foundation FFA, or the Forrest American Legion.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is assisting with arrangements.
