Fairbury – Glenn R. "Tip" Tipton, 82, Fairbury died 9:20 AM, Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Embassy Care Center, Wilmington, IL.
His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating the service.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW Post #9789. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
Tip was born July 25, 1925 in Fairbury, IL, the son of Robert and Rose (Pedigo) Tipton. He married Rosemary McClellan on November 18, 1950 in Fairbury; she preceded him in death on May 12, 1992.
Surviving are children; Gary (Jane) Tipton and Peggy Branch, both of Fairbury, five grandchildren; Josh (Jennifer) Branch, Janesville, WI, Kendra Branch, David Tipton, Brian Tipton, Scott Tipton, all of Fairbury and two great grandchildren Tanner and Logan Branch.
His parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Tipton was a veteran of the United States Marines Corp., serving in WWII from 1943 to 1946 participating in action at Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Fairbury VFW Post #9789 and was employed by Pittsburg International, Fairbury for over 40 years.
Tip enjoyed having coffee with friends at McDonald's Family Restaurant, Fairbury and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Glenn Tipton family.
