Colfax – Glenn A. Winterland, 87, of Colfax passed away at 2:45pm on June 9, 2011 at Asta Care Center of Colfax.
His funeral will be held at
11:00am on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Colfax. Pastor Connie Frase will be officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-5:00pm on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.
Glenn was born September 11, 1923, in Livingston County to Ben and Catherine Ficken Winterland. When he was two months old the family moved two miles south to a farmstead in McLean County where he lived and farmed the rest of his life.
He married Barbara Steidinger DeFries on December 27, 1991. She survives.
Also surviving are two brothers; Robert (Virginia) Winterland, Colfax; and Lowell (Betty) Winterland of Fairbury; one sister-in-law, Louise Winterland; aunt, Helen Lage of Colfax; step-children, Paul DeFries, Jon (Brenda) DeFries, Alan (Peggy) DeFries, all of Fairbury; Maggie (George) Miller of Menifee, CA; and 17 nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Harms and Fern Ummel Smith, and one brother, Dale Winterland.
Glenn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Colfax, Farm Bureau, charter member of the Peoria Ski club and a member of the McLean Count Gentlemen's Pool League. He enjoyed playing pool and treasured his skiing trips to Colorado and Upper Michigan.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery or Salvation Army.
