Gordon A. Harbeck, 67, of Fairbury and a long-time resident of Hanover Park, passed away at 4:34 pm, Friday, July 2, 2021 at his residence in Fairbury.
A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Community Church of Schaumburg (1000 S Springinsguth Rd) on Saturday, July 24 with visitation at 10 am and service to follow at 11. A second service will be held at Christ Community Church of Chenoa (212 Lincoln St) on Monday, July 26 with visitation at 4 pm and service to follow at 5.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Feed My Starving Children or Moody Bible Institute, Chicago.
Gordon was born July 25, 1953 in Chicago, a son of Arthur and Ellen (Botts) Harbeck. He married Jane Nystrom on August 4, 1973 in Chicago. She resides in Fairbury.
He is also survived by his three children, Josh (Kendra) Harbeck of Elgin, Elizabeth (Adrian) Carrion of Chenoa and Sarah Harbeck of Elgin; five grandsons, Matthew Kelly, Ari Harbeck, Ethan, Brady and Adam Carrion; two brothers, Ron Harbeck of Nashville, TN and Rick (Sharon) Harbeck of Beecher, IL; one sister, Mary (Jack) Sadowski of Sarasota, FL; three nieces, and eight nephews.
Gordon was a member of Christ Community Church in Chenoa and also attended the men's Bible study at the Chenoa Baptist Church. Before moving to Fairbury, he was a long-time member of Calvary Community Church of Schaumburg where, in earlier days, he worked with the church's youth group. He enjoyed volunteering at Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg.
While Gordon had various jobs, he found his calling working information technologies at Ascension Health System. A fan of Star Trek , Sherlock Holmes, and baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs), in his retirement, his favorite activities were reading and playing with his grandsons.
