Gregory G. Gaitens, 88, a resident of Livingston Manor Nursing Home, Pontiac and formerly of Fairbury died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Livingston Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Gaitens was born January 25, 1919 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of James F. and Anna (Phalen) Gaitens. He married Jean Pursley on February 15, 1947 in Strawn, IL. She survives at Livingston Manor Nursing Home, Pontiac.
Also surviving are a son Bill Gaitens, Bloomington and a brother Bill Gaitens, Pennsville, New Jersey.
He is preceded in death by five brothers.
Mr. Gaitens was a 1937 graduate of Routt High School in Jacksonville. He served in the Army Airforce during WWII obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the service he was employed as a retail manager for S.S. Kresge Company and later K Mart department store in Bridgeport and Pontiac, IL. Mr. Gaitens was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fairbury and a charter member of the Fairbury VFW post #9789.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
