Obituary
Helen A. Allen, 84 of Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community formerly of Fairbury passed from this life at 6:30 am, Monday, October 13, 2008 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL.
Her funeral service will be, 10:03 am, Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Duffy Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.
Mrs. Allen was born February 23, 1924 in Pontiac, IL a daughter to Edward and Eva Mae Lockwood Leister. She married Harold "Red" Allen June 12, 1943 in Pontiac. He passed away September 11, 1982. She also was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one son; John Allen and three grandchildren.
Survivors include one son; James Allen, six daughters; Judy Embry (Vince Alfaro), Jean (Marshall) Fosdick, Jane (Gary) Tipton, JoAnn Allen, June Hughes, all of Fairbury, Jeri (Doug) Steidinger, Forrest, thirty grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury and the American Legion Auxiliary, Fairbury. As a young bride she taught school, raised her children as a homemaker and drove a school bus for the Fairbury-Cropsey School Dist. for many years.
Helen will be remembered for her unselfish kindness to others and her love for cats.
